El sistema editorial parece haberle jugado una mala pasada a la organización de los premios Spirit, que destacan lo mejor del cine independiente de EEUU y que cada año inauguran la temporada de premios con el anuncio de sus nominaciones. Pocas horas antes de hacerlo oficial, en su página web han quedado visibles los listados de nominados -no se sabe si auténticos o no-.
Aunque ya no está disponibles, la lista destaca a tres películas por encima del resto: Beasts of No Nation, Carol y Spotlight. La relación publicada, sin confirmación de su autenticidad, es esta:
